I always feel a noticeable shift in the air when July arrives in Jersey. As the sea finally warms up and the long summer evenings stretch out in front of us, St Helier sheds its everyday routine and shifts into full-blown festival mode. This month, the town hosts two of the island's most vibrant community events, transforming our historic promenades and town squares into open-air celebrations.

The Warm-Up: Fête de St Hélier

Taking place the weekend before the beach party, the Fête de St Hélier (18–19 July 2026) is a fantastic, family-friendly street festival that honours the parish's patron saint. If you are arriving a week early, you will find the heart of town completely transformed. Parade Gardens, Broad Street, and the Royal Square fill with live music, local craft stalls, and wandering entertainers putting on giant bubble shows that the kids absolutely love.

My favourite part of the Fête is always the authentic Norman Market. Stallholders travel over from France, bringing with them incredible regional cheeses, traditional ciders, and freshly made crêpes. It is a brilliant way to spend a Saturday afternoon, wandering between the gardens and the town centre with a cider in hand, soaking up the atmosphere. Because entry is completely free, you can dip in and out of the celebrations as you explore the surrounding high street.

The Main Event: Havre des Pas Seaside Festival 2026

The following weekend, the energy moves from the town centre down to the coast for the highlight of the Jersey summer events July 2026 calendar. Taking over the sweeping seafront promenade and the iconic 19th-century bathing pool, the Havre des Pas Seaside Festival is the ultimate al-fresco community beach party.

From midday on both Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July, the coastal road is closed to traffic and opens up to pop-up bars, street food vendors, and two live DJ stages—including one right on the sand. The setting itself is stunning; the historic Lido, with its curved art-deco lines and tidal pool, provides an incredibly picturesque backdrop as acoustic bands play into the evening.

What makes this festival so brilliant for visitors is how accessible it is. Tickets are just £3 per day (or £5 for the weekend), making it one of the most affordable full-day events on the island. Just bear in mind that tickets are sold on the door only—you cannot book in advance online. The organisers have also introduced an excellent eco-friendly initiative, so expect to pay a £1 deposit for a reusable pint cup at the bars. Make sure to pack your swimming gear, as taking a dip in the Lido to cool off between DJ sets is highly recommended!

Transport Tip: Parking around Havre des Pas can be tight during the festival. I highly recommend hopping on Bus Route 1 or 1A, which will drop you right by the action, or simply walking down from central St Helier.

Where to Eat Nearby

If you want to step away from the festival crowds for a sit-down meal, you are in luck. St Helier is packed with fantastic dining spots just a short stroll from the events.

If you are heading down to the seaside festival, you must stop by Petisco Tradicional on Roseville Street. It sits right on the walking route from town to Havre des Pas. Do not let its modest café front fool you; inside, they serve up incredibly hearty, authentic Portuguese dishes. Their daily specials and wonderfully relaxed atmosphere make it the perfect pitstop before an afternoon of dancing.

If you are spending the day at the Fête de St Hélier in the town centre, book a table at The Halkett Pub & Dining. Located just a short walk from Parade Gardens, it offers a brilliant, modern pub environment. If you happen to be visiting on Sunday, their traditional roast is fantastic and comes highly recommended.

Alternatively, if you are craving a proper wood-fired pizza after wandering the markets, head to Red House Coffee, Bar & Pizzeria at the West Centre. They keep things simple with beautifully fresh ingredients cooked fast in a proper pizza oven, alongside a great, sociable bar vibe.

Where to Stay for the Festivals

Because these festivals draw big crowds, booking a hotel within walking distance is the smartest way to plan your trip. You won't have to worry about taxis at the end of the night, and you can easily pop back to your room to freshen up.

For families, The Merton Hotel is a stellar choice. Located just up Belvedere Hill, it is a very short walk down to the Havre des Pas promenade. Not only are you minutes from the festival entrance, but the hotel also features a spectacular indoor pool and waterslides to keep the kids entertained all weekend.

If you prefer to be right in the coastal mix, the Hotel Ambassadeur in St Clement is situated just slightly further along the coast road. It offers cosy rooms (some with lovely sea views) and an outdoor pool, providing a slightly quieter base that is still an easy waterfront walk to the festival.

Another incredibly convenient option is The Norfolk Hotel on La Colomberie. It sits perfectly halfway between the St Helier town centre and the Havre des Pas seafront, making it an ideal, relaxed base whether you are attending the Fête or the seaside weekender.

Make a Day of It

While the festivals offer more than enough entertainment, you can easily round out your itinerary by exploring the area’s rich civic history. While in the town centre for the Fête, take a moment to visit the Parish Church of St Helier. Dating back to the 11th century, it is the island's Pro-Cathedral and a beautifully serene spot tucked just behind the bustling Royal Square.

July is a spectacular time to experience the Channel Islands, and St Helier's back-to-back community festivals are the perfect excuse to book your trip. Grab your sun cream, keep a few pound coins handy for your reusable cups, and come join the party on the promenade.

See you by the sea,
Alyssa
