Details

The Parish Church of St Helier, also known as the Town Church, is an Anglican church located in St Helier, Jersey. It is one of the twelve 'Ancient Parish Churches' of the island and serves as Jersey's civic church and Pro-Cathedral. This means it is the seat of the Bishop of Winchester in the Channel Islands and hosts major civic services, partly due to its proximity to the Royal Square, where the island's judiciary and legislature are based.

The current church building primarily dates from the 11th century, though it has undergone significant extensions and renovations, particularly after 1820 and more recently in 2007. Originally situated on the shore before land reclamation, the church has historical significance, including being a place of worship for the future Charles II and James II during the English Civil War. Today, it welcomes people from all over the island and offers a variety of services and community events.

The parish church is in central St.Helier and it is open throughout the day. It is a pleasant place to visit for tourists and those seeking a quiet place for reflection.

Beautiful stained glass windows, and the church's gardens are planted with fruit and vegetables that the public are free to consume.

The church is full of history and a sense of God's awesome presence. As we arrived a pianist started playing the most majestic pieces. There's a chapel devoted to St Helier who really was Jersey's main man as far as I'm concerned. He went there as a missionary and the first thing he did was to cure a cripple. He then defended the island at the cost of his life.
