The staff are welcoming and friendly, the rooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed. The food is very good and service in the restaurant is on point too.
The pool and sun terrace are delightful, well maintained, clean and spacious. Literally a few yards from an amazing vast beach that’s great to swim from.
You can fall asleep to the sound of waves lapping the shore if the tide is in. It goes out a long way.
I arrived back late last night and got chatting to a chap in the bar that turned out to be the manager Joseph. As I also had a restaurant business we got to talking about the reality of hotel life.
It is very clear to me that this independent hotel really has customers at heart, whether they are tourists or from the local community.
This is hospitality done properly. Bravo everyone. I’m looking forward to visiting again soon with my wife. I have no hesitation in recommending Hotel Ambassadeur.
The room was an average hotel size, with two single beds put together for a comfortable large double. Very effective black-out curtains made the room totally dark at night – and that was without using the black-out blinds! We overlooked over the unheated outdoor swimming pool and we had a narrow view of the sea beyond that.
There was plenty of hanging and drawer space, two mirrors and a flat-screen TV. Small bedside tables had a drawer for those little things you might need in the night.
Room lighting was good and we appreciated the focused reading lights on either side of the bed. There were 5 spare power sockets in the room, but, unfortunately, none by the bedside.
The kettle and cups etc are hidden in the wardrobe which has no power supply, so we bought them out and put on the little table. The two chairs were comfier once we moved the unnecessary cushions from the bed to support our backs.
The bathroom was good, with an effective toilet, but the hot water could take minutes to come through to the shower and could then go from scalding to cool.
The one maintenance issue we reported (a problem with the TV) was rectified within an hour.
You could easily get onto the beach just across the busy main road. The authorities should consider a crossing here, or at least some speed bumps. You can drive into town in 10 minutes, or head further along the coast road to some places of interest. The botanic garden is very near.
On several evenings we ate in the hotel’s pleasant dining room, mostly choosing from the 5 course menu which offered very good value at £27.99. The food from the menu is quite acceptable, and some of it is very good. You won’t be hungry after this and we skipped at least one course after the first night. They were able to offer me meals that catered for my intolerances without any fuss – quite unusual. The staff were, almost without exception, very nice and friendly and helpful.
Low alcohol drinks included Peroni Zero and Guinness Zero.
Breakfast was average, with standard branded cereals, but no granola, plain and fruit yogurts from Jersey, several types of tinned fruit and a fresh fruit salad. I ordered poached eggs on the first morning and they arrived cool and with solidified yolks. However, once they learnt that I liked to make my own tea, hot water tea bags and lemon slices came each morning, which was nice. My partner liked her kippers. On most mornings the service was efficient and the ordered items came quickly.
There were little plastic pots of Golden Shred marmalade and jam for toast. There were no pastries on the first day, it was towards the end of the breakfast period, but there were croissants subsequently. There was also sliced ham and cheese, but no bread or rolls.
There is a comfortable lounge. A ‘games room’ had a snooker table but little else. Some board games would have been appreciated.
For Jersey, the Ambassadeur represented good value and I’d certainly stay here again.
Breakfast was really good, with a great continental selection and generous cooked options on request and the breakfast team were well organised and attentive. The pool area was clean and peaceful, perfect for relaxing. Special thanks to Anna, who took such wonderful care of us and went above and beyond with our requests.
I honestly can’t rave about this hotel enough. Thank you for making our time in Jersey so enjoyable — we can’t wait to come back!
