Jersey Summer Events Guide: Castles, Festivals & Coastal Dining

Hey everyone, Alyssa here! Summer has officially landed in the Channel Islands, and if you are planning a visit to Jersey over the next few weeks, you are in for an absolute treat. The days are deliciously long, the sea is finally warming up enough for a proper swim, and the island's event calendar is bursting with life. Whether you are a local looking for weekend inspiration or a first-time holidaymaker figuring out your itinerary, the transition into late June and July brings out the absolute best of our nine-by-five-mile home.

Sunsets and Medieval Beats

Let's kick things off with one of the most uniquely 'Jersey' experiences you can have this season. Starting on Thursday, June 25, the historic Mont Orgueil Castle is hosting its first Summer Night Session of the year. If you have never been to one of these, you need to add it to your list immediately. Imagine the golden hour sun dipping over the picturesque Gorey Harbour, while relaxed Ibiza-style DJ sets echo through the middle ward of a spectacular medieval fortress. It is a brilliant way to kick off the weekend early. My top tip? Pack a blanket, curate a little picnic of local cheeses and fresh bread, bring a bottle of your favourite wine, and get there early to claim a good spot on the grass. The vibe is incredibly relaxed, and watching the fortress transform under the twilight is purely magical.

West End Classics and Marina Walks

If you prefer your entertainment a little more theatrical, this weekend (June 26-27) sees the Jersey Opera House taking centre stage. They are hosting a stunning 'Phantom of the Opera & West End Classics' concert featuring West End star Luke McCall. It is the perfect excuse to get dressed up for a night in town.

Before you hit the theatre, though, I highly recommend a daytime stroll around St Helier's waterfront. Down at Elizabeth Marina, ArtHouse Jersey has transformed the historic arches with a fresh series of vibrant community and professional murals. The exhibition, 'Art in the Arches: Safe Haven', explores themes of sanctuary and ocean ecology. It is completely free, open-air, and creates a wonderfully colourful pedestrian route. Grab a coffee from a nearby kiosk, take a slow walk along the marina, and watch the boats bobbing in the harbour against a backdrop of fantastic local street art.

Looking Ahead: Massive July Festivals

As we flip the calendar into July, the energy ramps up even further. On Saturday, July 4, the massive Out-There electronic music festival returns to the scenic Val de la Mare in St Ouen. Known as the 'Valley of the Unknown', this is undeniably the biggest dance music event of the Jersey summer, featuring massive headliners across two huge stages. If you are planning to go, sort out your transport early—LibertyBus usually puts on special routes, or you can pre-book a local cab, as the western lanes get incredibly busy.

For the active types, the very next day (Sunday, July 5) brings the Tour de Jersey cycling challenge. Starting from Albert Pier in St Helier, this island-wide event raises vital charity funds and offers routes ranging from a family-friendly 7km all the way up to a gruelling 100km. It is an incredibly scenic way to experience Jersey's winding country lanes and dramatic coastlines. It is an innovative, multi-sensory look into Jersey's traditional seaweed-gathering heritage (known as vraicking). Combining art, film, and traditional Jèrriais song, it is a wonderful way to connect with the island's maritime roots.

Meanwhile, if you are travelling with children, you cannot miss the 'Wild Immersion' virtual reality experience at Jersey Zoo. Running on selected dates right through until September, this state-of-the-art VR setup transports you to global wildlife hotspots. It is a fantastic modern addition to the world-famous conservation work they do up in Trinity.

Where to Base Yourself

If you are still figuring out where to drop your bags, location is everything. For those wanting to be right in the heart of the action for the Opera House, the marina murals, or the Tour de Jersey start line, the Pomme d’Or Hotel is an absolute classic. Situated right on Liberation Square, this hotel offers modern quarters, lovely harbour views, and a brilliant buffet breakfast to fuel your sightseeing.

If you prefer waking up to sweeping bay views and a slightly quieter village feel, I recommend heading west to the Somerville Hotel in St Aubin. Nestled on the hillside, it boasts plush rooms, an outdoor pool, and a restaurant with sea views that will make it very hard to leave your table.

Alternatively, if you are coming over specifically for the Out-There festival or just want to be closer to the rugged surf of the west coast, Le Moulin de Lecq in St Ouen is a fantastic, tucked-away spot. It has a great menu with plenty of gluten-free options and a truly tranquil location that feels a million miles away from the bustle of town.

Coastal Eats and Sun-Drenched Lunches

No trip to Jersey is complete without indulging in our incredible local food scene, particularly when the sun is shining. If you are spending the day out west near the festival site or just surfing the waves at St Ouen's Bay, you have to grab a table at El Tico. It is a beachside institution. Their fresh seafood is superb, the curries are legendary, and watching the sunset from their terrace with a cold drink is practically mandatory.

For something a little more hidden, make the trek down the steps to the Portelet Bay Cafe. Located right on the beach in one of Jersey's most stunning coves, they serve up excellent wood-fired pizzas (including brilliant gluten-free and dairy-free options). You simply cannot argue with the views here.

Make a Day of It

To truly round out your Jersey summer trip, make sure you spend time exploring our iconic fortresses in the daylight. Head out to Gorey to explore Mont Orgueil Castle before the evening DJ sets begin. It has cast its imposing shadow over the fishing port for more than 800 years, and climbing all the way to the top offers unmatched views across to the French coast.

Down south in St Aubin's Bay, a visit to Elizabeth Castle is a whole adventure in itself. Check the tide times before you go; walking across the causeway at low tide is a fantastic experience, though the amphibious castle ferries are always on hand when the water rolls in.

Finally, if the weather is calm and you want to see the island from a completely different perspective, book a trip with Jersey Seafaris. Departing from Albert Pier, their high-speed RIB boat tours can whisk you away to offshore islands like Les Écréhous to spot dolphins, seals, and hidden beaches.
