Hey everyone, Alyssa here! Summer in Jersey is truly kicking off this week as the island transitions into a vibrant season of music, theatre, and heritage. But as any seasoned traveller will tell you, the secret to a perfect summer holiday is looking just a little bit further ahead down the calendar. If you want to experience the absolute peak of our island's festive spirit, it’s time to start planning for the big Jersey summer beach festivals 2026.
I’m talking, of course, about the magnificent double-header of the Havre des Pas Seaside Festival and the Fête de St Hélier, taking over our calendar from the 18th to the 26th of July. These mid-summer weekends are when our beautiful capital parish truly comes alive, spilling out of its historic squares and right down onto the sandy shores. Because these events draw thousands of locals and visitors alike, leaving your accommodation and dining plans to the last minute is a risky game. Let’s dive into what makes these festivals so special and how you can lock in the ultimate Jersey summer weekend right now.
The Havre des Pas Seaside Festival is arguably one of the most colourful weekends of the year. The coastal road is completely closed to traffic, transforming the beachfront promenade into a bustling, sun-drenched playground. Picture this: you're wandering along the historic lido as live acoustic stages pump out local tunes, the air smells of salty sea breeze and sizzling street food, and families are getting stuck into traditional seaside games down on the sand. It is a brilliant, chaotic, joyful celebration of island life.
Meanwhile, the Fête de St Hélier brings a distinctly European flair to the town centre. Expect expansive al fresco dining, bustling street markets selling artisan crafts, and pop-up performances transforming the historic streets. One crucial tip for both events this year: organisers are pushing hard for sustainability. Make sure you purchase a reusable festival cup when you arrive at the bars. Not only does it keep our beautiful beaches free of single-use plastic, but it also makes a rather nifty, inexpensive souvenir to take home!
Because St Helier becomes a hub of pedestrianised activity, bringing a hire car into the centre of town during festival weekends is more hassle than it's worth. I highly recommend relying on your own two feet or the excellent LibertyBus network. The main bus station, Liberation Station, is just a stone's throw from the festival action, making it incredibly easy to navigate if you're travelling in from the western or eastern parishes.
When packing for long festival days by the sea, layers are your best friend. The July sun can be fierce—so pack high-factor SPF, a good hat, and sunglasses—but the coastal breeze off the English Channel can turn a little brisk once the sun goes down. A light evening jumper and comfortable walking shoes are essential, especially if you plan on dancing on the promenade or navigating the cobbled town squares.
If you want to be right in the thick of the action, securing a central hotel now is imperative. My top recommendation for a festival base is the Pomme d’Or Hotel. Situated proudly on Liberation Square, it offers modern quarters with stunning views right across the harbour. You’re literally minutes away from both the Fête de St Hélier markets and a short, scenic walk to the Havre des Pas promenade. After a long day of sunshine and street food, heading back to the Pomme d'Or for a quiet drink at the bar—or resting your tired feet in the outdoor pool and sauna—is sheer bliss.
While the festival street food is incredible, you might find yourself craving a quieter, sit-down meal to escape the midday hustle or enjoy a romantic evening. Tucked away on Queen Street, La Bastille Bar & Brasserie is a hidden gem. It has an easy, relaxed charm that feels miles away from the bustling crowds, despite being right in town. The décor balances comfort with a touch of elegance, making it the perfect spot to take your time over a carefully prepared, delicious meal. It’s highly popular with locals, so booking your table well in advance of the festival weekend is a very smart move.
If you’re coming over for the festivals, you absolutely must pad out your itinerary with some daytime exploring. Just across the bay from your St Helier base sits Elizabeth Castle. This formidable fortress has defended the island for over 400 years and is accessible by foot at low tide via a cobbled causeway (or by the charming amphibious castle ferry). This summer, the castle is hosting 'Vraiqu'sie', a uniquely local art exhibition exploring Jersey's traditional seaweed-gathering heritage through multi-disciplinary art, film, and Jèrriais song. It’s a wonderful, multi-sensory way to connect with our maritime history before hitting the modern beach parties.
For something a bit more adrenaline-fueled, head down to the Albert Pier (right next to the Lifeboat Station) and book a trip with Jersey Seafaris. As the largest RIB boat tour operator in the Channel Islands, they offer thrilling high-speed trips along the coastline and out to offshore reefs like Les Écréhous. Spotting wild dolphins playing in the wake of the boat is a memory you won't soon forget, and it perfectly complements a seaside-themed holiday.
Finally, if you want to swap the lively St Helier vibe for something a bit more medieval and serene, take the bus out to the beautiful eastern fishing port of Gorey. Here, the magnificent Mont Orgueil Castle casts its imposing shadow over the harbour. It’s one of the finest examples of a medieval fortress in existence. After climbing the towers and taking in the panoramic views towards France, you can treat yourself to dinner at The Moorings Hotel & Restaurant right on Gorey Pier. It offers a wonderfully informal dining experience with sweeping views of the channel and the castle above.
July will be here before we know it, so grab your diary, round up your favourite travel companions, and get those bookings sorted. I can’t wait to see you all soaking up the sunshine, clutching your reusable cups, and enjoying the very best of Jersey's festival season.
See you on the promenade!
