Over the next couple of days, you can blend a glorious open-air art walk at Elizabeth Marina with the soaring, spine-tingling vocals of West End royalty at the newly renovated Jersey Opera House.

Before you even think about putting on your evening wear for the theatre, take advantage of the brilliant afternoon sunshine. I highly recommend kicking off your weekend with a leisurely stroll from St Helier Harbour down towards Elizabeth Marina. Right now, ArtHouse Jersey has launched the third iteration of its hugely popular public mural project, Art in the Arches: Safe Haven.
As you walk along the waterfront, you will see the marina's utilitarian concrete arches transforming into a vibrant, 17-piece open-air gallery. The theme of 'Safe Haven' feels incredibly fitting as you watch the boats bobbing gently in the harbour. If you time your walk right this weekend, you might even catch some of the island's best local artists live in action, adding the final brushstrokes to their work. It is completely free, entirely family-friendly, and offers the perfect backdrop for a few summery photographs.
If you want to escape the midday heat for an hour, wander back towards the centre of town via the Weighbridge. Here, you can pop into the Jersey Museum & Art Gallery. They have just opened a mesmerising new exhibition called Seeing the Light.
As a travel journalist who spends half her life chasing the 'golden hour' for photographs, I was fascinated by this. The exhibition delves into why Jersey has such a legendary reputation for pristine, inspirational natural light, showcasing rare and previously unseen works from the heritage collection. It is a wonderfully quiet, contemplative way to spend an hour before the evening’s excitement begins.
The crown jewel of this weekend's itinerary is undoubtedly the Phantom of the Opera and West End Classics showcase, presented by Music in Action. After its stunning renovations, stepping into the Jersey Opera House feels like an event in itself. The ornate historic details of the auditorium are the ideal setting for this magnificent programme of Broadway showstoppers.
Acclaimed West End stars Luke McCall and Manon Taris are headlining, bringing world-class vocal power to St Helier. McCall has the distinction of being the youngest person to play both the Phantom and Jean Valjean in the West End, so getting to see him perform in our local premier theatre is a rare treat. Plus, proceeds support local music outreach programmes, making your ticket purchase a win for the island community.
A grand theatre trip demands a thoroughly enjoyable pre-theatre dinner. Fortunately, St Helier’s vibrant food scene is just a short walk from Gloucester Street.
For an effortlessly elegant start to the evening, I always look to the Pomme d’Or Hotel. Situated right on Liberation Square, it offers fantastic dining with lovely views over the bustling harbour. It is brilliantly central, meaning you can enjoy a luxurious seafood dinner and then take a gentle ten-minute walk over to the Opera House without worrying about rushing for taxis.
Alternatively, if you are lingering down by the marina after your Art in the Arches walk and want something much more casual, continue your stroll along Victoria Avenue to The Lookout Beach Cafe & Restaurant. It is a super cute spot right beside the beach. They are open late (until around 8:30 pm usually, though do double-check), making it an excellent stop for their sublime cheesy fries or a brilliant chicken burger while watching the tide roll in.
If you are travelling over from the mainland or just fancy a proper local staycation, the waterfront area gives you brilliant access to some of Jersey's best historic sights.
While you are wandering the marina enjoying the murals, you will undoubtedly spot Elizabeth Castle sitting dramatically out in St Aubin's Bay. You can catch the amphibious ferry across to explore the battlements—it is a brilliant way to spend Saturday morning before the matinee or evening shows.
For a truly exceptional place to base yourself for the weekend, consider heading slightly west around the bay to the Somerville Hotel. Tucked up on the hillside in Saint-Aubin, this plush country house hotel offers an outdoor pool and a restaurant with sweeping, panoramic sea views. You can easily catch a bus or a cab into St Helier for your West End evening, then retreat to the quiet luxury of the village afterwards.
Before I sign off, a quick nod to next week: July is roaring in with some massive dates for your diary. If you are feeling active, the 10th anniversary of the 30 Bays Summer Challenge kicks off on Wednesday the 1st, inviting you to wild swim your way around our hidden coves. The Jersey Amateur Dramatic Club is also bringing the smash-hit musical Come From Away to the Opera House starting July 3rd, and the incredible Out-There Festival takes over Val de la Mare Reservoir on July 4th.
Whether you are here for the sweeping arias, the colourful local art, or just a really good plate of chips by the sea, have a brilliant weekend.
