The History of Jersey Rugby
Discover the tumultuous, and often colourful, story of rugby in Jersey in this talk by ex-1st Team player and our Head of Education, Jon Brennan. He’ll start with the early adoption of the sport in the 1860s and cover the origins of the Siam Cup and its mysterious disappearance during the Occupation. He’ll also look at the search for an appropriate ground after several failures, and the decades when the Island became a desirable touring destination for the best and brightest of the international rugby elite. There will also be a focus on the journey of the rugby club during the sport’s professional era, including Jersey’s rapid rise to the second tier of the national game, the demise of the Jersey Reds, and their rebirth as a community club once again.
Bring your lunch with you and we will provide tea, coffee and biscuits.
Drop in from 1pm and be back to work by 2pm.
Short talk starts at 1.10pm.
