Jersey Trees for Life is hosting an open volunteering session at the Pont Marquet section of the Railway Walk on Tuesday 20 May at 9.30am.
If you're interested in tree care, or just fancy getting out into the fresh air for a bit of gentle exercise on a spring morning, we'd love you to join us.
It's going to be a maintenance session for the hedgerow whips planted in December and January; we're going to remove by hand the large amounts of weeds that have built up in only three or four months, including bindweed, nettles and sticky plant. Gloves will certainly be required.
As its name suggests, this aggressive species binds itself around hedgerow whips and other plants, stealing their light, water and nutrients.
You can sign up here for free if you're interested in attending.
We'll meet at
9:30am
at the car park opposite the
Elephant Park
, which is near the Rue du Pont Marquet end of
La Petite Route des Mielles (near Jersey Lavender):

There should be enough parking but Red Houses is only a few minutes' walk away, as a backup. The closest bus stop is also there.
If you have any problems finding us on the day, please call Alex on 07797 774676.
For those joining us, please bear in mind the following:
- You must complete a
volunteer working agreement
before attending (link also in confirmation email)
- Check the weather and wear sunscreen or waterproof clothing and boots as appropriate
- You may get tired so don’t push yourself too hard; take it at your own pace
- Bring snacks and drinks to maintain energy levels
- We provide equipment but
please ensure you bring protective gloves
- Ask our team lots of questions and have fun!
