"Beside the Seaside" captures the essence and nostalgia of seaside living through a stunning collection of ceramics by Jane James and paintings by Jo Creavy. Inspired by unique textures, colours, and moods of the sea, each piece of artwork on display is a celebration of Jersey’s seaside.
For this exhibition the gallery space underwent a complete makeover to create the right immersive atmosphere. Jo Creavy painted a large mural of St Ouen’s Bay on the back wall. A doorway was made into a beach hut and a victorian bathing tent was erected. To complete the scene a wooden sailing dinghy was installed and beach picnic scene set up. This all created the perfect backdrop for Jane’s ceramic beach huts and fish mounted on recycled pieces of boat alongside Jo large paints of dinghies.
