What Parents Need to Know About Vaping
The British Medical Association has just announced that we must 'take action … we are living in a vaping epidemic. Vape usage has risen hugely'. Within a single year the prevalence of vaping has doubled amongst 16 to 18 year olds and it’s occurring in younger age groups and rising: about one in ten 11 to 15 year olds are vapers. The World Health Organization (2024) warns: 'nicotine in children and adolescents has deleterious impacts on brain development, leading to long-term consequences for brain development and potentially leading to learning and anxiety disorders.'
Dr Aric Sigman will explain the new found effects of vaping and why nicotine is extraordinarily addictive. There are significant medical and psychiatric concerns regarding vaping even without nicotine that parents need to know about. What can parents do to reduce the likelihood of their child vaping? If their child is vaping, are they are addicted and if so, how they help them quit?
