Nigel Oxley is an artist, printmaker and author whose illustrious career in printmaking spans 5 decades. In 1971, he joined Cliff White at White Ink Studio as an etcher before becoming Master Printmaker at the renowned Kelpra Studio in 1978 until 1990. During this time he has worked with some of the most notable artists of the last century including Dame Elizabeth Frink, Victor Pasmore, Edduardo Paolozzi, John Hoyland, John Piper and Jim Dine. Oxley established a reputation for complex, multiple-plate colour etchings which can be seen in particular in the works by Piper, Dine and Hoyland.
He is the author of the book 'Colour Etching' which is a reference book in which he describes the techniques employed by himself and the artists he worked with at Kelpra Studio. He spent many years as senior lecturer at London Metropolitan University where he established an influential printmaking course that produced many successful students (including our co-founder Tom Parker).
Nigel Oxley is one of the founders of Prism Print International, a group of 32 artists from seven different countries. Prism acts as a forum for cross-cultural exchange through fine art printmaking and international exchange exhibitions. Prism organises exhibitions on a regular basis which so far have taken place in London, Tokyo, Milan, Urawa and Cremona.
