Love to sing? Join us for an informal evening of communal singing and sharing in the joy of songs. Whether you bring some songs to share, join others in the chorus of their songs or even just come to listen - all are welcome! ‘The key thing to remember about unaccompanied singing is that it’s the easiest and most natural way to sing. You just sing. You don’t have an instrument of your own to worry about, or a band to keep in time with. You learn the song, and you sing it. If it has a chorus, the audience joins in. Job done.’ I've never heard of a singaround. What's the format? Singarounds are much less formal than most other music events. There is no stage area to sing from. Each singer(s) will perform from where they are sitting. Each person will sing one song, then it will move on to the next person, going around the room. This will repeat for as many rounds until the end of the evening. Do I have to sing? Definitely not. We welcome anyone who would like to come to listen and enjoy the performances. Others may like to just join in with choruses - that's fine too! Do I have to sing a ‘folk song’? “All music is folk music. I ain’t never heard a horse sing a song.” - Louis Armstrong. You can sing whatever you like! The joy of singarounds is that they're different every time, depending on who is there. Some evenings many people do sing “traditional” folk songs. Some evenings many people don’t. I’m not British. Can I sing a song from my country? Of course! It is great to hear songs from another country, although if singing in another language it's nice to give a brief translation of the story behind the song. Can I read lyrics from my phone or a piece of paper? Yes, of course. Though, it’s always impressive when people share a song they've learnt by heart.
