As two of the biggest names of the Italian Renaissance, Michelangelo Buonarotti and Niccolo Machiavelli are both renowned for their greatest works. But aside from ‘David’, the Sistine Chapel ceiling, and ‘The Prince’, both figures made fascinating contributions to the literary scene. Through analysis of Michelangelo’s lyric poetry and Machiavelli’s comedy plays, this talk will reveal a new dimension to these famous (and, perhaps, infamous) Renaissance men. Katie Bastiman is a local scholar of Italian literature as well as a teacher, writer and musician.
