La Corbière Lighthouse is an iconic landmark situated on the extreme south-western point of Jersey in St. Brélade. The name "La Corbière" translates to "a place where crows gather." It holds historical significance as the first lighthouse in the British Isles to be constructed from concrete, with its first lighting occurring on April 24, 1874. The lighthouse tower stands 19 metres (62 feet) tall, with the lamp positioned 36 metres (119 feet) above high water spring tides.
The lighthouse is a popular tourist attraction, renowned for its panoramic views, especially at sunset. It is located on a tidal island, accessible via a causeway during low tide. Visitors can walk the causeway, explore rock pools, and enjoy the dramatic coastal scenery. Tours of the lighthouse interior are available, offering insights into its maritime history and the lives of past lighthouse keepers. A warning siren alerts visitors when the tide is about to cover the causeway.
Lighthouse tours are available on select dates and times, dependent on tides and weather. Check the Jersey Uncovered website for specific tour schedules. The causeway is accessible during low tide; tide times should be checked before visiting.
