This is a large hotel, the original building is in the style of a French chateau and occupies an elevated position. Location is just over a mile from the town centre, downhill going but a steady climb on the way back with steep steps back up from the road. A good 30 minute walk unless you are in your 20's and very fit. There is a small shuttle bus, but this only runs four times a day, is often oversubscribed and the last trip is at 4.30pm.The surrounding area is a little shabby with little or nothing of any interest nearby. The area in front of the hotel, where I suspect were once lush gardens, is now occupied by a heath centre with car park beneath. To the left of the main building is the modern pool/spa block (partly unoccupied) and behind this a large, ugly block of additional accommodation. Directly to the right of the hotel is a massive and overbearing new block of private flats. The grand main entrance to the hotel is no longer used and entry to reception is via the carriage entrance to the right hand side. The lobby area is large, a bit clinical and featureless - in common with much of the hotel. To the front, there is a terrace area and a small garden which is neatly maintained, there is however, no service in these areas. Inside, the hotel is clean and quite well decorated, but from the fake oil paintings in the corridors to the carpet stuck to the walls, you do feel everything has been done as cheaply as possible.
Once checked in, getting to your allocated rooms can be a bit of a mission. There are a couple of lifts, they are tiny and painfully slow and seem to be permanently in use by elderly guests going up or down by one floor! The rooms, as you might expect in a large hotel, do vary from the modern and spacious to the quite small and a little dated. What is generally in short supply is a room with a decent view! Many rooms do not have anything that could be considered as a view of any description (single rooms seem to be the worst). However, looking out over St Hellier currently is not an enjoyable sight, a forest of construction cranes and acres of scaffolding with a tiny sliver of sea in the far distance. In fairness, our room was pretty good, spacious with a large bathroom with bath and shower. Surprised to find no mini-bar and no fridge, although there was an iron and ironing board! Maid service was pretty basic and our carpet did not see a hoover in the entire week we were there. Oh, and our view was of a roof.
Facilities. The pool area is excellent and well maintained. There is a Spa, did not venture in as the treatment prices were eye watering. As for eating and drinking, this is all concentrated in one small area. This serves as breakfast room, bar area and day/evening dining. Breakfast is pretty standard hotel fare with a good selection of well cooked hot and cold options. Avoid the 'scrambled egg' which is not that great - poached, boiled and fried eggs are available to order - as is porridge - but this is not widely advertised. There is a larger dining area off to the side, but this is bland and basic with cheap furnishings and I'm afraid resembles a 1960's works canteen. As for main meals, there is a day menu and an evening (after 6.30) menu. These are limited in choice (particularly for vegetarians) and remains unchanged from day to day. The quality of the meals is average at best and prices are pretty steep. There is usually a special but this was nearly always priced at over £30 a head for one course. There is an additional covered outdoor dining area, this is unusable when it rains as the roof leaks like a sieve. Beyond this is a terrace with tables and chairs for smokers to relax with a drink.
Staff in the hotel were, in general, very friendly and helpful, our maid less so, and could only manage the odd grunt.
In conclusion, I fear this hotel is to some extent trading on its fading elegance from a bygone era, but that elegance is no longer there. It suffers from a poor location and a lack of atmosphere. I feel there are better hotels in Jersey with better locations and better prices.

Love this place. The room was lovely. The Staff are excellent. The spa and treatments are superb. Steam room sauna etc, brilliant. 20min fast walk into town which let's the location down a bit. But a free shuttle bus and local buses are excellent

I stayed here for two nights in May and there are pros and cons.

Pros:
- Good location
- Mostly quiet
- Pleasant staff
- Amazing spa facilities
- Clean
- Storage and shuttle bus to town (which I didn’t use, although useful for some).

Cons:
- Dated decor in bedrooms
- Not much of a view in my room
- Breakfast was a huge let down to the point I didn’t bother going on the second morning. The food options are very inadequate for anyone with dietary requirements. I emailed the hotel prior to my stay to advise them I am vegan and they told me to tell the staff again when I arrived. Staff were totally unaware when I went to breakfast and couldn’t volunteer what they could offer for me. I settled for what I knew was plant based although it wasn’t very satisfying (although still a meal to be thankful for). For a 4* hotel, the standard should be much higher and much more inclusive. Not everyone wants animal derived products on their plate. Please do better! Thank you!

Staff friendly and helpful, rooms are on the smaller size but ok. Bed was hard as rock and needs a topper or new mattress. Wouldn’t stay again just for that reason alone. No proper restaurant only a breakfast room. Disappointing if you’re looking for a special meal. You don’t want it in a general breakfast room.
Nice spa water could be warmer in the jacuzzi
