The Royal Bay of Grouville, affectionately known to locals as Long Beach, is a stunning expanse of golden sand situated on the east coast of Jersey in the Channel Islands. Its calm, sheltered waters make it an ideal spot for swimming and a popular choice for families with young children. The bay gained its royal title after Queen Victoria visited in 1846 (some sources say 1859) and was captivated by its beauty. Overlooked by the magnificent 13th-century Mont Orgueil Castle at its northern end, which borders Gorey Harbour and village, the beach offers breathtaking views and a picturesque backdrop.
Long Beach provides ample opportunities for various activities. During the summer months, visitors can indulge in a range of watersports, including water skiing, wakeboarding, banana boat rides, paddleboarding, and canoeing. The area is well-equipped with amenities, featuring nearby cafes, kiosks, restaurants, pubs, and small shops. For families, there is a beachside playground, and easy parking is available, although it can fill up on sunny days. The beach is also an important habitat for migratory birds during the winter. While generally safe for swimming, it's important to note that there are no lifeguards on duty.
