The sculpture referred to as "Two Hands Clasping" in Jersey is officially titled "'Saint Malo' Hands". It is a granite sculpture created by Derek Tristram and was unveiled in 1997. The artwork depicts two upright clasped hands and was commissioned by the Jersey Public Sculpture Trust and the Harbours and Airport Committee. It was created to commemorate the successful rescue of all 307 passengers and crew from the French catamaran 'Saint-Malo', which struck a rock near La Corbière Lighthouse on April 17, 1995.
The sculpture is made from a single block of Jersey granite, which was formerly part of the Harbour wall. It stands five feet tall and is located on the Corbiere headland, overlooking the site of the rescue. An inscription on a plaque affixed to the base details the events of the rescue and dedicates the memorial to those who assisted in ensuring the safe return of everyone on board. The clasped hands are an age-old symbol of lifesaving, friendship, and camaraderie.
