M-132 Underground Command Bunker Noirmont Point

Noirmont Point, St Brelade, JE3 8JA, Jersey, Channel Islands

Details

The M-132 Underground Command Bunker, also known as Battery Lothringen, is located at Noirmont Point in St Brelade, Jersey, Channel Islands. It was constructed by the Organisation Todt for the German Wehrmacht between March 1943 and May 1944 as part of Hitler's Atlantic Wall defences during the World War II occupation of the Channel Islands. The M-132 is a naval artillery command bunker and was the only one of its kind in Jersey, featuring an armored naval rangefinder and two steel observation cupolas. The bunker extends two floors underground and included quarters for troops and officers, an operations room, and other facilities.

Today, the M-132 bunker is one of the best-preserved German coastal batteries in Western Europe and serves as a significant historical site and museum. It is part of a larger complex of fortifications at Noirmont Point that includes gun emplacements, ammunition bunkers, and a naval artillery direction and range-finding tower (MP1). One of the original 15cm SK L/45 guns used at the battery has been recovered and is now displayed at gun emplacement Number One. The site is a memorial to those who fought and lost their lives in World War II and is open to the public, often hosting events such as military vehicle exhibitions. While the exterior fortifications are generally accessible, the interior of the command bunker is typically open on weekends or by appointment.
