Details

Gorey Harbour is a picturesque tidal harbour located on the east coast of Jersey, Channel Islands, nestled beneath the imposing Mont Orgueil Castle. It's one of the island's three main harbours and serves as a hub for leisure craft and smaller commercial fishing vessels, offering moorings and shelter for over 240 local boats. The harbour area is a charming village environment, popular with both locals and tourists, featuring independent boutiques, art shops, and a variety of restaurants and bars, many situated along the pier.

The harbour has a rich history, with its strategic location leading to fortifications dating back to the Iron Age and the construction of Mont Orgueil Castle in the 13th century to protect against French invasion. Originally significant for boat building and the oyster industry, a new pier was constructed in 1816. Today, Gorey Harbour is known for its scenic beauty, coastal walks, and as a departure point for exploring the Royal Bay of Grouville. It plays an important role in Jersey's maritime heritage and is a key feature of the island's eastern coastline.
