Details

The Railway Walk in Jersey is a popular and scenic route that follows the path of the island's old railway line, which operated from 1870 to 1936. The walk stretches for approximately four miles from St Aubin to La Corbière, offering a peaceful, tree-lined climb with interesting historical details and relics of the railway, including its last use during the Occupation. The path is ideal for both walking and cycling, with several refreshment stops along the way, such as Off the Rails for pizza or Jersey Lavender Farm for cream tea.

The route provides stunning panoramic views, especially of St. Ouen's Bay as you approach La Corbière Lighthouse, which marks the end of the trail. While the original railway suffered from competition and eventually closed after a fire in 1936, parts of it were briefly revived by German occupying forces during World War II. After the war, the tracks were removed, and the path was developed into the recreational route enjoyed today. The walk is generally accessible, and is noted as being suitable for electric wheelchairs and pushchairs. However, it's worth noting that events like Storm Ciarán in November 2023 caused significant damage with fallen trees, leading to temporary closures for safety and clearance work.
