Details

St. Brelade's Church is one of the twelve ancient parish churches in Jersey, located in the picturesque southwest corner of St. Brelade's Bay. Thought by some to be the oldest Christian site in Jersey, the current buildings have served the local community for approximately 1000 years. It is unique in the Channel Islands for having one of the few surviving medieval chapels, the Fishermen's Chapel, situated directly next to the main church building.

The church's history dates back to before AD 1035, with the chancel being the oldest part of the current structure. Originally a small monastic chapel built by St. Brelade (also known as St. Branwalader) in the 6th century, it became a parish church in the early 12th century, leading to subsequent additions and alterations. The church welcomes a large number of visitors each year, in addition to serving its resident population, and is known for its Christian hospitality and worship within the broad Anglican tradition.
