Liberation Square is a significant landmark and hub of activity in St. Helier, Jersey, situated near the harbour and main shopping areas. At its heart stands the striking Liberation Monument, a bronze sculpture by Philip Jackson, unveiled on May 9, 1995, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jersey's liberation from German occupation during World War II. The sculpture depicts a group of islanders holding the Union Jack aloft, creating a victory arch, and is set within a circular pool with 12 fountains representing the 12 parishes of Jersey.
The square itself was officially named in 1995 and serves as a place of reflection and a vibrant gathering spot for various events and festivals throughout the year. It is opposite the Pomme d'Or Hotel, which served as German headquarters during the occupation and was the scene of iconic liberation celebrations when the British flag replaced the German Swastika. Liberation Square offers a space for visitors to relax, with an amphitheatre and nearby access to the Liberty Wharf shopping and dining destination, housed in a restored Victorian building.
