Recently I have popped into the St Peter’s M&S to do a weekly shopping at around 4-5pm. The queue's were very long, reaching the frozen section and only two tills were opened. When I decided to approach a very exhausted looking checkout lady, I asked her if she could ring the bell for someone to open another till and she politely told me that she cannot do anything at the moment because they are short staffed. There was a total of 3 maybe 4 staff on the whole shop floor, 2 people at the tills, one lady unloading the goods into shelves and assisting customers, and one lady who I’m assuming was a duty manager as I recognised her face from the poster they have on the wall near the tills of who the duty managers and store manager are.
This is a very unprofessional system, a shop that hasn’t got enough staff and has 4 people on the shop floor shouldn’t be opened, or if needed the store manager should be there instead to help. However, the store manager is nowhere to be seen.
