Val de la Mare Arboretum is a unique botanical garden in Jersey, established in 1975 by the Moore family using seeds sourced from across the globe. Once known as "The Forgotten Forest," this tranquil escape now serves as a stunning green oasis, offering a peaceful atmosphere for visitors to connect with nature. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Val de la Mare Reservoir in St Peter, its diverse collection of trees and plants, flourishing in Jersey's temperate climate, makes it a truly special place.
The arboretum boasts twelve diverse tree collections, or fourteen including two new trails, featuring a remarkable array of species. Visitors can marvel at notable specimens such as four Chinese swamp cypresses, which are the sole seed-bearing examples of their kind in the northern hemisphere. Beyond these, one can discover coastal redwood, Japanese cedar, Korean birch, and eucalyptus among others. Beautiful walks wind through the arboretum and around the scenic reservoir, with routes varying in length and difficulty, including a full circuit of 2.8 miles (4.5 km). The area is also teeming with wildlife, including various birds such as egrets, herons, and owls, alongside red squirrels, lizards, and frogs.

If you go to the left (clockwise) when approaching from the carpark, it's an easy flat walk for 1 km to the dam.
If you go right (anti clockwise) it's undulating and approx 2 km to the dam.
Either way, it's lovely, but if you're after an easier walk, go clockwise and come back on yourself when you get to the dam.
Lovely walk through some pretty amazing trees around the reservoir. Pretty views. Perfect aftern stroll. Easy carpark if you drive, not so easy getting off the bus on such a busy rd
