Radio Tower is a striking observation tower perched dramatically on a clifftop overlooking the iconic Corbière lighthouse, on Jersey's rugged south-west tip. Originally built by German Occupying Forces during the Second World War, this formidable concrete structure has been sympathetically transformed into unique self-catering accommodation, blending its rich history with a German modernist style. Its distinctive character and commanding position offer visitors a truly immersive and atmospheric experience, standing out amongst the island's many coastal attractions.
Inside, the tower comprises six floors, with a winding concrete staircase at its core leading to various levels, culminating in a wooden spiral staircase to the very top. Guests will find three individually designed double bedrooms, each featuring an en-suite shower room, along with a modern, well-equipped kitchen on a separate floor. The pinnacle of the tower hosts a spectacular living area, boasting breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views across the coastline and sea, while authentic observation slots and original steel doors offer a tangible connection to its past.
This unique property is best suited for discerning travellers, including friends and families, who appreciate a historical setting combined with modern comforts for a memorable self-catering holiday. Considering the military history on what started out as a rough and ready concrete construction over 80 years ago, the conversion into comfortable and cosy accommodation for up to six guests is nothing short of ingenious. The available space is very well utilised, culminating in the top floor lounge with spectacular 360 degree views. We stayed for 3 nights and on one evening, we were subjected to driving rain and gale force winds, so by being in such a solidly built building, we felt totally safe and secure whilst witnessing what Mother Nature was throwing at us in spectualr fashion.
There is a good quality restaurant less than 100 metres away, as is the bus stop with a very regular bus service. Access to the coastal paths and the disused La Corbière railway line are nearby.
This has to be one of the most unusual and spectacular places we have ever stayed, and we would have no reservation in visiting again or recommending it to others.
Comfortable inside with bedrooms kitchen and a big lounge/ observation room at the top with superb views.
There's a lot of concrete here! Fascinating to visit both for the view and the fortifications.
Good parking close by and buses run here.
