I specifically asked whether a menu item contained an ingredient i cannot have. The waiter initially confirmed that it did, so I clearly said that I did not want the item. Despite this, it was brought to the table anyway. I again explained that I had said I didn’t want it.
The waiter then spoke to the kitchen and returned, contradicting her original statement by saying the ingredient was not included after all. Given the inconsistency and the potential risk to my health, I was not prepared to take that chance and reiterated that I did not want the item.
At the end of the meal, the manager insisted that I pay for it, despite the fact that I did not eat it. I don’t understand why I would be expected to pay for something I explicitly declined and never consumed. There would be no reason for me to ask about an ingredient and then eat the dish after being told it contained it.
Really disappointing and just embarrassing.
